Art Appeals To Timeless Values - John and Karen Winslow believe that the best art appeals to the values that can be understood in any age. It offers substance that reaffirms the dignity and worth created in all of humanity and nature by reflecting its beauty. Without being degrading or insulting to our intelligence, it respects reality. Unlike a photocopy, it is sensitive to interpretation inspired directly from life that uncovers the hidden poetry and beauty inherent in all of creation, from the simplest forms to the most intricate. It is both an intellectual and emotional response to that which is visible; a painterly poetry that is inexpressible by any other means.
Craftsmanship is Key to Quality. - Traditionally, artists have been master craftsmen. The Winslows care about quality. They are skilled craftsmen employing time-tested methods and materials inherited from the "Old Masters". The utmost care is used in all aspects of the creation of their artwork, from the washing and aging of the oils to the specific formulation of each color. Pure pigments that are completely colorfast are ground by hand with the proper mixtures of oil, resin, volatile oils, egg, glue, and beeswax according to the need of each color. These are applied to the finest handmade ground on the best linens or wooden supports. Because they are easy to remove, synthetic varnishes are the best to use as a final varnish for the protection of the painting, which aids in the future conservation of the work.
Dedication to the Ideals of The Old Masters - John and Karen Winslow are dedicated to producing art that touches these ideals. They strive to create work that is visually pleasing, uplifting, and positive; work that transcends changing fads and movements to endure as a cultural heritage. They are highly-skilled artists whose distinctive style, technical merit, craftsmanship, and artistic vision tastefully manifest quality.
